Team Captain Declan Brown made a welcome return to the Queen’s starting team after missing the season so far due to a serious thumb injury and he was quickly called into action as Dundela dominated the opening exchanges. Queen’s Connor Mulholland missed a good chance before Jonah Mitchell picked the ball up on the left, cut inside and shot home from just inside the box. Two minutes later, Mitchell turned provider, crossing from the right wing for Matt Hughes to head in from 4 yards. Ten minutes later a mix up in the visitors defence presented David Magee with a chance and he guided the ball into an empty net from the narrowest of angles. Soon afterwards Mitchell got his second of the day, nodding in from close range. Just before the break Dundela got one back. Left back Daniel Burns broke clear and his low cross was met by Tiarnan McNicholl who shot home from 10 yards.
The game continued at a hectic pace and Dundela made it interesting when McNicholl fired home from the edge of the box, however, a minute later Lorcan McIlroy had a great run on the right wing, cut the ball back from the bye line and his pass found Ciaran O’Hare who blasted the ball past Johnathan Sergeant. The Dundela keeper then distinguished himself with three fine saves from efforts by O’Hare as Queen’s ran out worthy winners.
This was a fine and much needed performance coming after a run of 6 league defeats.
