Dergview had the best of it in the early going but Queen’s Leon Bonnes, can closest when his 25 yard drive came back off the crossbar with Ruairi McElroy well beaten. The visiting keeper then made an excellent save tipping Marc McKenna’s pile driver over the bar. With half an hour gone Ben Mulgrew ran onto McKenna’s through ball and calmly slotted the ball low into the net to give Queen’s the lead. Just 4 minutes later Chris Middleton’s right wing cross was headed in by Phil Traynor from close range to double Queen’s lead.
In the second half Dergview had a lot of possession but found it difficult to break down a well organised home defence. Queen’s were unlucky when David Magee’s powerful shot from outside the box came back off the base of the post. The ball rebounded to Magee whose second attempt was saved by McElroy. With 20 minutes to go Dergview finally got on the score sheet when left back Gareth Falconer headed home from a narrow angle following a fine long cross from the right wing. Dergview fought manfully for an equaliser to the end but Queen’s held on for a deserved victory.
