The strong, swirling wind made it very difficult for both teams on yet another miserable day for football at the end of a month of record rainfall.
There were many chances for both teams and Queen’s came closest in the first half when Jonah Mitchell’s powerful shot came back off the crossbar. Just when it looked like a scoreless draw, hesitation in the Queen’s defence allowed Eamon McAllister to gain possession and he slotted the ball under Declan Brown on 67 minutes. Five minutes later, McAllister added a second thanks to a delightful chip over Brown from the edge of the box. Substitute Ciaran O’Hare pulled one back for Queen’s just 2 minutes after coming on. He controlled the ball on the left of the box, turned onto his right foot and struck a great shot into the far top corner giving Neeson no chance. Queen’s strove manfully for an equaliser in the remaining minutes but Ards held on for the victory.
Next two games are away against Dergview on Tues 3rd March, KO 8pm and again on Sat 7th March KO 3pm
