It was a very cold day on a heavy pitch for Queen’s first visit to Loughgall for a number of years.
Second placed Loughgall had won the previous meeting between the teams by an impressive 4 goals to nil at the Dub in early September.
The home team were marginally the better side in a scoreless first half during which the best chance fell to Dale Malone who lobbed the ball over the bar from 5 yards out. Malone had another effort partially block by Ronan Young, the ball striking the post before being cleared by Matt McManus. Loughgall came very close when a well struck 30 yarder hit the top of the crossbar.
The second period was a high paced good quality game and the longer it went on the more likely it seemed that Queen’s would find a winner and so it proved. Deep into added time, Jonah Mitchell broke away on the right and played a perfect low cross into the path of David Magee who fired home the winning goal.
This was an excellent victory against one of the main contenders to win the Championship.
Next is a home game against Ballinamallard on Sat 21st December, KO 2pm
