Queen’s got off to a fine start and found themselves two goals up after just 19 minutes. Leon Bonnes opened the scoring after 5 minutes, firing into the top corner from the edge of the box. Matt Hughes was fouled in the penalty area and Jonah Mitchell doubled the visitors lead. Queen’s remained on top for the rest of the half and their continuous pressure should have resulted in more goals. David Magee was out of luck when he broke down the left wing and his low cross shot clipped the base of the far post.
Knockbreda got back in the game immediately after the break having been awarded a free kick on the left, David Fearon’s low shot went in at the near post. Queen’s keeper Declan Brown got hands to the ball but couldn’t keep it out. After that it was a more even, open game of numerous chances. The finishing by both teams was extremely poor. On no less than 4 occasions Knockbreda had a player through one on one with keeper Brown who managed to save on each occasion. At the other end Queen’s luck was out when Mitchell’s free kick from the left touchline eluded everybody and hit the far post. Into injury time with most Knockbreda players pushed forward, Queen’s Mitchell gained possession on the half way line and bore down on Knockbreda keeper, Windrum. He committed the keeper and unselfishly squared the ball to Ciaran O’Hare whose simple tap in sealed the win.
Another hard earned, welcome, three points.
