On a perfect pitch the home team were quickly into their stride and in just 9 minutes they took the lead. A good ball up the right wing found Ryan Campbell who turned inside and his low left foot shot went in at the far post. Balinamallard continued on top and a number of dangerous crosses flashed across the Queen’s box but no one could get a finishing touch. Queen’s came more into the game as halftime approached but the home defence kept them at bay.
The second half was a much more even affair and Queen’s had plenty of possession. A great header by Ryan O’Reilly from a corner produced an excellent save from Queen’s keeper Conor Lally. Queen’s had a great chance to equalise from a cross from the left which fell to the unmarked Ronan Young on the right side of the box. He carried the ball forward but his shot was across the face of goal and wide of the far post. In the final ten minutes a long cross from the right wing was not dealt with by the Queen’s defence. The ball fell to John Edgar with his back to goal and he quickly turned and shot high into the far side of the goal to secure the points for Ballinamallard.
Another defeat against a very good team but this was a much better performance especially in the second half when we were able to achieve a lot of possession; however, once again we found that we don’t get many chances at this level.
Next is a league game away to Ards on Sat 5th October KO 3pm.
