Queen’s made the trip to Tobermore knowing that 5 points from their 3 remaining games would definitely clinch the League title. They also knew that if they won and Annagh failed to win, the title would be theirs.
Not for the first time this season, Queen’s got off to a whirlwind start and were 4 – 0 ahead with just 22 minutes on the clock. The opening goal came after 9 minutes when Philip Traynor was fouled in the box and Chris Middleton’s penalty was well out of the reach of Tobermore keeper Lukasz Bednarz. Connor Mulholland then raced past a number of defenders and fired home goal number two. Five minutes later he had his second when he pounced on a good pass and slotted the ball past Bednarz. Philip Traynor then raced into the box and fired home off the crossbar.
The second period was more even with fewer chances but Matt Hughes of Queen’s and Tobermore’s Ryan Winton each had the misfortune to see their efforts hit the crossbar. Near the end Queen’s were awarded another penalty and Middleton again stepped up to complete the scoring. Just after the final whistle news came through of Annagh’s draw against Sport&Leisure and Queen’s were able to celebrate their first ever league victory at this level.
Next game is on Tue 23rd April home to Tobermore KO 6:45pm
