A first goal for Leon Bonnes on the half hour mark proved to be enough for Queen’s to take all three points in a game of much endeavor, little good football and not many clear cut chances. Bonnes ran on to a fine pass by Barry Walsh on the right and struck a low shot under the outrushing home keeper, Patrick Saunders. In the early minutes a low cross from the right wing found Darren Gallagher at the near post but he was denied by a brave save by Queen’s keeper Declan Brown.
After the break Queen’s had chances to seal the win. Daniel Hanna’s volley went over and Ryan McCready headed over at the far post. As the home team pushed forward near the end, Josh Corry broke away and passed to Bonnes who slotted the ball home. Celebrations were quickly halted by the assistant’s flag for offside. In the final minutes Sport & Leisure were reduced to 10 men and Queen’s saw out the game to preserve their 100% league record.
Next will be a Steel and Sons Cup game at home to Glentoran Seconds on Sat 15th September ko 2.30pm
