Queen’s University 5 Lurgan Town 0

Intermediate Cup (QF)

It took just two minutes for Connor Mulholland to open the scoring as he wriggled his way past a number of defenders before shooting past keeper Tyler Boyce. The second goal soon arrived when Matt Hughes dribbled into the box on the left and pulled the ball back for man of the match, Chris Middleton, to side foot home from 12 yards. Boyce made a great save to deny Ryan McCready, tipping the strikers header over the bar but it wasn’t long before Middleton had his second goal, again firing low past the overworked visiting keeper. Mulholland ran on to a perfect through pass from Leon Bonnes and as Boyce came off his line Mulholland chipped into the far corner.

The second half was less intense but again dominated by Queen’s who scored just one more goal when Matt McManus headed home Middleton’s corner with 15 minutes left. Lurgan Town battled bravely and might have had a consolation goal when Andrew Houston’s flick went inches past the far post.

This a very professional performance with not a single card issued to either team. We await the semi-final draw which will take place on Monday 11th March.

Next is a league game home to Armagh City, ko 3pm on Saturday 16th March.
