Irish Cup Round 4
A place in the 5th round draw and the possibility of a fixture against a Senior team was the prize for the winners of this game.
In a lively start it was the visitors who had the first chance when Chris McFall’s shot went narrowly wide of the far post. With 15 minutes gone Queen’s Chris Middleton attacked down the right wing. He played the ball for the overlapping, Adam Robinson whose first time long cross found Ryan McCready and his header beat Jason Craughwell in the Newington goal. Ten minutes later Middleton’s cross was flicked home by Lorcan McIlroy and soon after it was 3-0 when Ronan Young’s corner found McCready who headed powerfully past Craughwell.
Newington got a goal back at the start of the second half. A cross from the right found Robert McVarnock and his shot deflected off a defender on its way into the net. Queen’s sealed the win when Daniel Hanna struck a long ball into the box and McCready out jumped Craughwell to head into the net to complete his hat trick. Newington’s Joe McDonald was shown a straight red card as Queen’s controlled the final 15 minutes without adding to their score.
