The first chance of the game came after 9 minutes when Connor Mulholland’s shot from a narrow angle didn’t have the pace to trouble visiting keeper Colum Carroll. The first goal soon arrived thanks to a good left wing cross by Ronan Young which found the unmarked Ben Mulgrew and his header gave Carroll no chance. Queen’s were on top and their second goal on 35 minutes came from a well struck volley from the edge of the box by Matt Hughes. Just before half time Hughes’ shot was very well saved by Carroll diving to his right.
Queen’s remained on top in the second half and secured a third goal when Matt McManus ran onto Chris Middleton’s long cross and flicked the ball past Carroll. Philip Traynor had a fine run on the left wing and his cross was controlled by Ryan McCready whose shot was saved by Carroll, the ball rebounding to Traynor whose shot was deflected over the bar. The visitors had bad luck when a good cross from the right was headed onto the crossbar by Darren Gallagher and at the other end Ronan Young’s pile driver from a narrow angle smashed off the bar as Queen’s held on easily for the victory.
