Steel & Sons Cup round 2
Queen’s dominated possession throughout the game but found it difficult to create chances against a very well organised Rosemount defence supported by a number of fine saves by goalkeeper Steven McKay. Queen’s were awarded a penalty after just 3 minutes but Ronan Young’s effort was saved by McKay. McKay came to the rescue again when he denied Daire Rooney from close range. Queen’s had numerous long range shots, all off target.
The pattern was similar in the second half but just when extra time looked certain, the pressure finally told. Matt Hughes played a pass to Ronan Young on the left and his low shot went in at the far post. In the final few minutes Ciaran O’Hare broke clear on the right and his low cross was turned in by debutant Lorcan McIlroy.
Next will be a league game away to Sport&Leisure on Sat 1st September ko 3pm
