Armagh City 0 Queen’s University 1

This was a tough day as both teams tried to play football in pouring rain and a cold, swirling gale force wind. The conditions spoiled any chance of an enjoyable spectacle for the few brave souls in attendance.

In the first half Conor Kerr’s long cross found Stefan McKenna at the far post who saw his shot well saved by Queen’s keeper, Declan Brown. With 30 minutes gone, Ronan Young got the only goal of the game. His wind assisted free kick from all of 35 yards gathered pace and flew into the top corner past Armagh keeper Daniel Devine.

In the second period Brown made a good save and Queen’s had a couple of good chances when Chris Middleton got free on the right side of the box but his low shot went a foot wide of the far post and then from a similar position Ciaran O’Hare’s shot was beaten away by Devine. Soon afterwards referee Hanna mercifully drew proceedings to a close.

I can’t ever remember a game being called off because of the strength of the wind but perhaps this one should have been on a day when the conditions completely ruined the game.

Queen’s next game will be at home to Moyola Sat 22nd December, kick off 2pm
