Queen’s University 7 Dungiven 2

Irish Cup (Round 2)

The last time we played today’s visitors, Dungiven, was 15 years ago in our final season in the NI
Intermediate League.

Queen’s new signing from Ballinamallard, David Elliott, made his debut and in the second half Jake
Moore (Linfield) and Ronan Young (Dungannon Swifts) both played for the first time.

Queen’s totally dominated the game from the off and were 3 goals ahead after 24 minutes, all three
scored by Ciaran O’Hare. He had already missed a good headed chance when he nodded Eamon
Fyfe’s left wing cross past visiting keeper Dillon Quigg. Five minutes later he struck the ball home
from 14 yards from another left wing cross by Elliott. From a clever free kick, Matt Hughes set up
O’Hare for his third goal. Just before the break, midfielder Ben Mulgrew let fly from 25 yards and
Quigg had no chance as the ball found the top corner.

Five minutes into the second half, Quigg brought down Fyfe in the box and Ronan Young converted
the spot kick despite the young keeper getting a hand to the ball. Fyfe then added goals 6 and 7
before Dungiven came back with 2 late goals. From the first chance Dungiven had in the game, a
quick free kick put Shea Dalton in and his low shot entered the goal via the far post. Dungiven were
then awarded a free kick from 20 yards and Anto O’Hare steered a low drive past home keeper
Declan Brown.

This was a comprehensive victory against an opposing team which couldn’t cope with the pace
Queen’s played at.

Next up is a league game home to Tobermore United on Saturday 7th October, ko 3pm
