This was one of many big games coming up, featuring a clash of the second and third placed teams in the League.
Straight from the kick off, Queen’s won a corner on the right and Connor Mulholland’s header was palmed out by Moyola Keeper Marcin Farniok to Matt McManus on the left wing. His cross was flicked on to the far post where Ryan McCready directed a powerful header back into the far corner. After 15 minutes it was 2-0. Ben Mulgrew’s side footer from just inside the box found the bottom corner giving Farniok no chance. Queen’s were rampant at this stage and scored a marvelous third goal started off by keeper Declan Brown’s pass to Daniel Hanna. A few quick passes found Ronan Young who burst into the box and back heeled the ball to McCready who struck it low past a helpless Farniok.
With the game effectually over the second period was less exciting but it was lit up by another outstanding goal when Matt Hughes’s left foot volley flew into the top corner. Young’s fearsomely struck flew in off the post but was ruled out for offside. Queen’s easily saw out the remainder of the game for a welcome three points.
The first half was about as good as it gets featuring some marvelous football and excellent goals. This fine victory sets us up well for the heavy program ahead.
Next game is a League game away to Banbridge Town on Tuesday 27th March kick off 6pm. This will be followed by a home game against Banbridge on Saturday 31st March kick off 3pm
