IFA Intermediate Cup (Semi-final)
This Intermediate Cup semifinal was played at Ballyclare Comrades ground with a final against Dundela as the prize for the winners.
Queen’s dominated the early stages and won a series of corners from one of which Ryan McCready headed powerfully past Glebe keeper Glenn McMullan to give Queen’s the lead after 15 minutes. Connor Mulholland twice came close to increasing the lead. His overhead kick was saved by McMullan and his powerful volley went narrowly over the top. Eamon Fyfe’s effort from outside the box went just wide. Glebe came well into the game with tall striker, Chris Nicholl, causing problems for the Queen’s defence. He had a great chance to score but shot wide of the goal. Glebe had the ball in the net from a goalmouth scramble but a linesman’s offside flag came to Queen’s rescue.
After the break, Queen’s were on top again for most of the half. Mulholland shot wide from a good chance in front of goal and eventually Queen’s managed their second score when Matt Hughes played in substitute Ciaran O’Hare, who shot into the corner to seal the victory.
Queen’s last played in the Intermediate Cup final against RUC in 1980.
Games are coming thick and fast now. Next one is away to Portstewart on Saturday 14th April kick off
