Queen’s University 0 Banbridge Town 0 (AET: Queen’s won 4-3 on penalties)

Intermediate Cup (Round 2)

Banbridge were the opponents just two weeks after also meeting in the Irish Cup in Banbridge. That
was a very close game which Queen’s won 2-1.

As previously, the pace was hot throughout with defences on top and not many goalscoring
opportunities for either side.

The longer the game went on the more Banbridge dominated possession but the best chance of a
winner was when Queen’s were awarded a penalty for hand ball with 15 minutes to go. Matt
Hughes’s spot kick was easily saved and soon it was on to penalties. Banbridge missed their first two
before Sean O’Reilly clinched the winner in sudden death. Declan Brown had made three fine saves
and Matt Hughes had the courage to step up again after his miss in the second half but was denied
again by a very good save. Penalty scorers were Ryan McCready, Declan Brown, Ronan Young and
Sean O’Reilly

Good to win again in the Intermediate Cup but many rounds still to go before getting excited.

Next is a League game home to Annagh United on Saturday 25th November, ko 2pm
