Lisburn Distillery 0 Queen’s University 2

Steel & Sons Cup (Round 2)

It was back to Ballyskeagh for the second time in a week, this time for a second round Steel Cup
game.

Queen’s started very well and missed three headed chances in the first 10 minutes. From the first of
these, Distillery keeper Jonah Nicholl made an excellent save from Ryan McCready’s header. Nicoll
made a number of good saves last week and once again he was to come to his side’s rescue many
times in this game. After 15 minutes Matt Hughes’ corner was cleared and the ball fell kindly to
McCready at the far post and he scored from close range. Tim Clarke’s free kick was well handled by
Queen’s keeper Declan Brown before Queen’s went two up. A long ball was won in the air by
McCready whose flick on sent Connor Mulholland racing clear and he coolly stroked the ball low past
the advancing Nicholl. Just before the break Distillery were unlucky to have an effort cleared off the
line by Queen’s defender Matt McManus.

The home side had two great chances in the first minute of the second half particularly when a low
cross from the right wing found Nick Beta at the far post but his shot was not well hit and Queen’s
were able to clear the danger. This set the tone for an entertaining second period in which each
team had many chances but none were taken. Matthew Ferguson did well to set up Beta whose shot
hit the base of the post and Beta also drew the save of the game from Declan Brown who got a hand
to Beta’s drive and managed to divert the ball over the bar. At the other end the excellent Nicholl
made fine saves from Mulholland twice and from Eamon Fyfe

This was a good result in a game of many chances. In the third round we will be away to the holders
Linfield Swifts on Saturday 9 th September ko 2:30pm

Next up is a BET McCLEAN league cup game away to Ards in Bangor, on Tuesday 29 th August, ko
7:45pm
