Dunloy 2 Queen’s University 3

Steel & Sons Cup round 1

Our first game of the new season was a tricky tie away to an unknown quantity, Ballymena League
side, Dunloy.

On a bright sunny day Queen’s found themselves a goal down after just 4 minutes. Dunloy attacked
down the left wing and after Declan Brown had made a fine save, the ball was swept into the empty
net to put the home side one up. On 25 minutes they were two up when a long range effort took a
slight deflection off a Queen’s player and flew in off the far post. Connor Mulholland then
dispossessed a Dunloy defender on the edge of the box and promptly fired the ball into the bottom
corner. Just before the break Eamon Fyfe gained possession in the box and lashed the ball home for
the equaliser.

Queen’s dominated possession after the break and another thunderbolt from Fyfe proved to be the
winner. Mulholland had a good chance to seal the win but his volley flew over the bar. Dunloy
played neat passing football and were always dangerous on the break. They had a late chance of an
equaliser when a low cross shot narrowly missed the far post.

This was a disjointed performance and the number of chances which Dunloy made is a concern, but
a win is a win. We will play away to Lisburn Distillery in the second round on Sat 26th August ko 2:30

Next game is a league game against Sport & Leisure away on Tuesday 15th August ko 7pm
