Banbridge Town 1 Queen’s University 2

Irish Cup (Round 3)

The game was played at a frantic pace and Banbridge were on top in the early stages. Just as
Queen’s were getting a foothold in the game the home side’s full back James Wilson let fly from out
on the right wing. The ball took a slight deflection off Queen’s defender Matt McManus and flew
into the top far corner. Queen’s were almost level soon after when Ryan McCready headed on to the
crossbar.

Queen’s were more in the game after the break. Ronan Young was clear on the left but his effort
was saved and Daniel Hanna’s header from a corner went narrowly over the top as Queen’s pressed
for an equaliser. On the hour Ben Mulgrew played McCready in and he rounded the keeper and
placed the ball in the empty net. Banbridge got on top in the latter part of the game but with ten
minutes left Queen’s broke away and scored the winner courtesy of McCready’s second goal of the
game.

This was an exciting game played at a breathless pace throughout by two evenly matched teams
who will resume hostilities at Queen’s in two weeks’ time in the Intermediate Cup.

Next is a League game away to Donegal Celtic on Saturday 11th November, ko 2pm
