The home side was on top from the start. Queen’s kept giving the ball away in dangerous areas and Tobermore capitalised after just 6 minutes. Ryan Winton raced to the bye line on the left and his low cross was turned in by Peter Duffin from 6 yards. Worse soon followed when Duffin’s pass released Gary Keane who thumped the ball home despite Declan Brown getting a hand to the ball. Queen’s first chance fell to Matt Hughes. His 22 yard free kick hit the top of the crossbar and with Lorenz Koller beaten. On 35 minutes Daniel Hanna’s low shot from the edge of the box found the bottom corner to get his side back in the game.
Five minutes after the break, Tobermore won a series of corners and Gillan scored from close range after Brown had parried the initial header. Stephen Lamont and Gareth Keenan were sent off. Tobermore’s Tiernan Flanagan broke clear and Brown diverted his shot onto the post an away to safety. Queen’s got more and more on top and with five minutes left Michael Allison shot home from 8 yards to give his side renewed hope. In stoppage time, Allison got to the bye line and his cross to the far post was headed powerfully into the net by Hanna. Incredibly there was still time for Nathan Jones to pass to Matt McManus who shot home at the far post to give his side the lead. In the dying seconds Jones had a good chance from the edge of the box but his chip was too high.
This was an amazing game. Full credit to all of the players for the spirit they showed in achieving a victory in such dramatic circumstances.
