Four short weeks ago we won a 7 goal thriller in Tobermore with 3 goals in the final 10 minutes. There was to be no repeat of that excitement in what was a dour battle with neither keeper having a lot to do.
Tobermore dominated possession in the first half and it took some excellent work by the home defence to keep them at bay. The only real chance of the half came when Declan Brown saved Conor Kearns close range effort following a corner.
The second half was more even but despite great effort and commitment from both teams, chances were few and far between. It never looked like either team would score until, with five minutes to go, the visitors claimed the spoils when Brown’s miss hit clearing kick from the corner of his box, went straight to Tobermore’s Paul Keane, a good 40 yards from goal. Keane, who had just entered the fray, controlled the ball and struck it into the empty goal. Queen’s finally had a chance when the ball broke to Aaron Keenan but his first time volley flew narrowly wide of McGraw’s goal.
This was a disappointing end to a game in which we battled manfully and so nearly earned a precious point.
