On a very cold day, the home team dominated a scrappy first half hour of few chances. Nathan Jones for Queen’s and Ross Black for Banbridge tried from long range without troubling the respective keepers. Conor Downey’s pace was a problem and he came close of two occasions. Towards the break Queen’s came more into the game and had a chance when Keeper Tuda Murphy lost the ball at the edge of the box but Matt Hughes couldn’t get a clear shot and the danger was cleared.
The second half was only marginally better than the first. From a free kick Matt Hughes’s shot was hard hit but straight at Murphy. With twenty minutes left Banbridge won a corner on the right. Central defender Stephen Acheson is a big man and it was his header at the far post which broke the deadlock. Banbridge thought they had another goal soon after but the linesmans flag cut short their celebrations. Their second goal came soon enough when substitute Andrew Wilson was in the right place to fire home from a few yards out.
Queen’s have scored a lot of goals in recent games but never really looked like getting one in this poor performance.
Next game is away to Newington at Seaview on Sat 12th Nov ko 3pm
