Moyola Park entertained Queens University at the Mill Meadow on a very wet autumn day.
After a quiet start the 9th minute for the first effort on goal when Adam Gray found Daniel McIlhatton on the edge of the box and his shot was well saved by Queen’s keeper Declan Brown. The visitors had to make a change in the 10th minute with Adam Robinson replacing the injured Noel Corrigan at right back. A dangerous cross from the Matt Hughes was headed clear by McQuillan. The home side opened the scoring in the 32nd minute when a long ball was flicked on by a Queens’s defender into the path of Conor Gregg and he rounded Brown and finished from a tight angle beating two defenders in the process that had got back to defend the goal. Two minutes later Conor Taggart had a shot from the edge of the box saved by Brown. Moyola may have doubled their lead in the 40th minute when Steven McQuillan headed over following a corner from Gray.
Moyola had the first chance of the second half when Gregg saw his ball across the goal line cleared. Moyola keeper Marcin Farniok tipped over a dangerous ball in from left back Gareth Keenan. With half an hour left the visitors got an equaliser when a great ball in from Michael Allison on the right wing was headed past Farniok by Moyola defender Nick Black. A minute later a ball from right back Black found Chris Dowie breaking clear but his first time shot with the outside of his left foot went just wide. Queen’s though they had won it when another fine Allison cross found James Lavery at the back post a few yards out but Farniok saved to keep the score line 1-1.
This was a much better performance especially in the second half.
