Steel & Sons Cup Round 3
Queen’s dominated from the start and were denied by two good saves from shots by Tony Tumelty, who also headed wide, and Matt McManus. Queen’s finally scored after 28 minutes when Patrick Stuart picked the ball up on the right wing, cut inside and struck a low left foot shot which the keeper got his hand to but couldn’t make the save.
Five minutes after the break Noel Corrigan’s corner was helped on by Tumelty and Stuart was unmarked at the far post to score from close range. Stuart then beat the offside trap and carried the ball into the box but his shot came back off the inside of the post. Five minutes later another Corrigan corner found Daniel Hanna at the far post and he scored a third goal for Queen’s. Bryansburn never gave up and with 7 minutes left Tumelty conceded a free kick on the edge of the box and a fine strike gave some hope to the home side who also had a shot come back off the post. Queen’s had the final say with four minutes left. Aaron Keenan played an excellent ball up the right wing to Ciaran O’Hare who cut inside and hammered a low left footer inside the near post for the final goal of the game.
This marked the last game for Aaron Keenan who is off to work in Madrid. We wish him all the best in his new life and we hope we will see him in a Queen’s shirt again in the future.
Thanks to Bryansburn for a sporting game with no cards and for their hospitality after the game.
