Colts game abandoned after serious injury.
A serious injury to Colts’ centre-forward Connor Campbell caused the game at Whitehead to be abandoned just before the half-time interval. Connor fell awkwardly and dislocated his knee and then to wait well over an hour for an ambulance to arrive. The sensible decision was taken by both managers and the referee to call the game off immediately. Thanks are due to the Whitehead manager/president who remained with us until the emergency services arrived. Despite being in acute pain Connor was extremely brave throughout his ordeal. Special thanks goes to team-mate Michael Enwright – a medical student – who tended to Connor and kept him calm after the incident. The incident left me thinking how lucky we are at QUBAFC to have immediate medical assistance on hand at our own facilities.
A much depleted Queen’s squad were leading 3-2 at the time of the injury. Goals from Garcia, Boyd and White were all the end product of some fantastic inter-play – much of it involving the unfortunate Campbell.
Everyone at the club wishes Connor a speedy recovery. A hugely important player and a popular figure among the group he will be badly missed.
The Colts will hope to welcome back some of the sick and unavailable next weekend for a home game with new table toppers Ballysillan at The Dub 2pm.
