For our second game of the season, Michael Allison and Gavin Higgins returned to the starting eleven for the trip to Castledawson.
Queen’s settled quickly and had a chance as early as the first minute when Connor Mulholland ran onto Paddy Donnelly’s clever pass, but his first time shot was well blocked by Moyola keeper, Gareth Maguire. Queen’s continued on top but most of their attacks ended with long range shots off target. Maguire made a fine low save to deny Donnelly.
On the stroke of halftime Stuart Harper’s fine left foot volley from Donnelly’s left wing corner gave Queen’s a deserved lead. Queen’s were more dominant after the break and went further ahead when James Lavery struck a spectacular goal from 30 yards out on the left wing, over the head of the back pedalling Maguire. It was all Queen’s now and Maguire keep his side in the game with a number of fine saves. With 15 minutes left Lavery made the game safe, pouncing on a loose ball and scoring easily from close range.
This was a much improved performance from last week resulting in a comfortable win. Next game is away to Killymoon Rangers on Saturday.
