Dundela 4 - 1 Queen’s University

IFA Championship Division 2

8th October 2011

After last week’s win away to Knockbreda, it was another difficult task at Wilgar Park. With Matt McManus suspended, Paul Prenter replaced him for his Queen’s debut.

Dundela started at a very fast pace and completely dominated the first half hour, by which time they held a handsome 3-0 lead. They opened the scoring with a finely placed header from centre forward Wright from a corner on 7 minutes. Ten minutes later Faulkner finished off a five man movement of one touch passing to place the ball wide of the Queens keeper, Gerard Duff and Ben Roy added number three on 27 minutes with a cheeky lob over Duff from 20 yards. Five minutes before the break Queens got on the score sheet when Paddy Donnelly’s cross found defender Stuart Harper who scored from close range.

The second half saw Queens continue to try and get another goal, but they were lucky when a drive from centre half Gourley crashed off the upright and out of play. Queen’s sub Connor Mulholland burst through the middle of the Dundela defence but shot over from just inside the box. Centre forward Wright sealed the win with an outstanding piece of skill when he chipped the ball over the centre half's head at the corner of the 18 yard box and then volleyed an unstoppable shot into the far top corner of the Queens goal.

A disappointing performance against a good Dundela team, however strange results meant that we dropped just one place to third in the League.
