Queen's 6 - Moyola Park 1

Colleges & Universities Football League (CUFL)

The Dub - 21st October 2009

Queen's got their University League campaign off to a great start with a big win over Letterkenny at the Dub. Having failed to beat the Donegal College in three previous attempts, a very difficult encounter was anticipated.

Fielding a number of new faces, Queen's made the early running and deservedly went ahead through Tony Tumelty's close range header after 15 minutes. Letterkenny eased their way into the game and it was against the run of play when Queen's doubled their lead just before the break, Mark Prenter being the scorer with a low drive into keeper Paddy Harkin's bottom right corner.

The first goal of the second half always looked crucial and when Tony Tumelty netted his second, a low drive from the right side of the box, the game was effectively over. Letterkenny's heads dropped and three more goals from Charlie McKay, a lob over the keeper, Mark Prenter, a great turn and shot and, substitute, Michael Kerr killed the game off.

Letterkenny got a late consolation when Gareth Harkin scored the goal of the game, a superb left footed free kick from 25 yards which flew past Peter Mallett's depairing dive.

This was a great start to the league season on a day when UUC and UUJ also recorded big wins. Next up is UUC at the Dub on 28th October.
